'Your body hears everything your mind says'

I stumbled upon this quote recently and it really sums up my Naturopathic and personal philosophy perfectly. What we think is interpreted and displayed in our physical body. With this in mind, I want to talk about Burnout. Burnout is common this day in age because most of us DO NOT STOP! Burnout is mentally induced and physically produced.

 

This conditioned is characterized by:

  • Exhaustion

  • Depleted energy

  • Sleep disturbances

  • Decreased mental engagement

  • Decreased focus

  • Mood disturbances

 

Symptoms that I see in practice on a physical basis:

  • Digestive issues

  • Weight gain

  • Joint and muscle pain

  • Chest pains and heart palpitations

  • Head aches and migraines

  • Lowered libido

  • ETC!

 

Most people that I see in my practice work in high stress, high intensity and long hour jobs. The expectation of most of these jobs is around the clock availability. With this societal expectation, burnout is a real possibility.

 

Here are my tips:

  • Try to ensure time for rest - challenge yourself to unplug and try to beat that increment by 10 more minutes the following week

  • Decrease caffeine - if this is your drug to keep you going, it is only wreaking havoc on your ability to rest and regenerate

  • Support your adrenal glands (that mitigate the stress hormone) with herbs and adaptogens

  • Practice sleep hygiene - no screens one hour before bed time

  • Meditation - even five minutes of slow deep breathing per day can help calm the mind (and therefore the body)

 

Stress is a fact of modern day life, I am here to help you deal with it and prevent your body from bearing it's burden.
