Happy New Year! I hope you all had a restful break and looking forward to 2020! This time of year in my office, I hear about resolutions. I support everyone's resolutions, but they tend to always be things that people are taking away from their lives (alcohol, caffeine, carbs etc) which tend to make them not long lasting. We are creatures of habit and we are better at adding things into our daily routines than we are at removing them! Here is my list of things to incorporate into your daily routines and health regimes to improve your wellness for 2020 - no resolution fails required!
1) Add in hydration - 8 glasses/2 litres of water per day!
This is to better detoxify the body, improve skin and joints, help with blood sugar levels and appetite, improve energy and mental functioning.
2) Add in a turmeric product/supplement
This amazing herb acts as a strong anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory. It improves joint mobility and has a beneficial effect on detoxifying the system. (caution if on blood thinners or have ulcers)
3) Add in Matcha green tea powder
This super anti-oxidant is well known in coffee shops and it provides strong anti-cancer properties. It helps with metabolism and is great for cognition. It is a great coffee substitute!
4) Add in an Adaptogen to help the body manage stress
The body interprets busy-ness as stress. So even if you are someone that is "low key" your body may still be functioning with improper cortisol (stress hormone). My favorites are Ashwaghanda, Reishi, Astragalus, Ganoderma and Tilia Tomentosa. These can be taken in powder/liquid form to add to your morning smoothie or in pill form. Feel free to ask me which one is best for you!
5) Add in an extra hour of sleep per night!
Most patients that I see tend to run on 6 hours of sleep. But most patients complain of feeling tired! Try for the next month to get 7-8 hours of sleep. This not only benefits your mood and cognitive function it also helps with anti-aging by nourishing the nervous system.
I hope this is an easy and helpful list to help you kick start your wellness goals for 2020. I wish you all a great year and hope to see you soon!
In good health,
