Summer is here! And with that comes the amazing celebrations and festivals in this great city. The only downfall with all of this celebrating is the over indulgence of food and alcohol. This month I want to talk about the Liver and what you can do to protect it over the fun-filled summer months.
The liver is the largest internal and most metabolically complex organ in humans.
The liver performs over 500 different functions including fighting off infection, neutralizing toxins, manufacturing proteins and hormones, controlling blood sugar and helping to clot the blood.
It processes virtually everything you eat, drink, breathe in or rub on your skin
At any one time, the liver contains about 10% of the blood in your body and it pumps about 1.4 liters through per minute.
The liver is the only organ that can regenerate itself – Phewf!!
Signs your Liver is under-functioning:
Dark bags under eyes
headache around eyes
floaters in eyes (black spots you can see when trying to focus)
acne, eczema, skin issues
irregular menses and infertility
you have a diet high in fat/alcohol/toxins
you struggle with the emotions Anger and Frustration
What you can do to regenerate and protect your Liver:
Decrease alcohol, caffeine and smoking!
Exercise à SWEAT!
Water and lemon first thing in the morning will stimulate the liver
Use Castor Oil Packs over the Liver
Eat organically – less toxins for the liver to process
Breathing Exercises (Kalabati, Oojai)
Consider the following Liver Herbs: Sillymarin (Milk thistle), Chionanthus (Fringetree), Cynara (Globe Artichoke), Chelidonium (Buttercup), Taraxacum (Dandellion)
Have a happy and healthy summer!
